DID YOU KNOW?
- Landlords by law must have an EICR conducted on the property every 5 years. From June 2020, failure to do so could result in legal action, and a financial penalty of up to £30,000.
- Smoke and Carbon Monoxide amendment regulations came into force in October 2022, meaning landlords must ensure at least one smoke alarm is equipped on each storey of their homes.
- All rented properties in England must now provide a CO2 alarm in rooms where there is any fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers)
- Once an alarm is reported as not working, it must be repaired or replaced by the landlord as soon as possible. Local authorities can impose a fine of up to £5,000 where a landlord fails to comply with a remedial notice.
